Brian Gray

On August 15th 2006, Brian Gray joined Environment Canada to serve as the first Assistant Deputy Minister of the newly-created Science Branch. Brian comes to the department from Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) under an executive interchange agreement between two organizations. Brian was the Director of Conservation Programs for DUC. In this role, Brian oversaw DUC's habitat conservation, research, education, government relations, and marketing and communications programs.

Brian holds a B. Sc. in fisheries and wildlife management from the University of Missouri, an M. Sc. in wildlife ecology from Michigan State University, and a Ph. D. in wildlife ecology, with a minor in sociology from Mississippi State University. Brian has co-authored numerous technical papers and book chapters, and has received several achievement awards, including The Wildlife Society's Wildlife Ecology and Management Publication Award. Brian serves on the editorial panel for The Wildlife Society Bulletin and has served on numerous advisory panels, most recently the North American Wetlands Conservation Council (Canada), the North American Bird Conservation Initiative Canada Council, the Canadian Shorebird Working Group, and the Natural Resource Board of Trout Unlimited Canada. Brian also has served on three national agricultural advisory committees, most recently the national Agri-Environmental Advisory Committee for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
